Sarah's Price 07 - free on-line thriller romance novel

In page seven of Sarah's Price, the free on-line thriller romance novel by Rob Hopcott, Sarah has just had her hair cut and tells Peter that it is her birthday.

She has a teasing manner, clearly designed to encourage him to romance her.

At the close of the chapter, we see them kissing for the first time and then learn that it isn't her birthday but just a ruse to advance their relationship.

I wonder whether ruses are a valid way of advancing a relationship or is honesty the best policy?
